A New African SKD Destination Added
Updated: Jun 5
Earlier this month Volkswagen announced the opening of their new vehicle assembly facility in Accra, Ghana. This will be the fifth VW vehicle assembly location in Sub-Saharan Africa besides South Africa, Kenya, Rwanda and Nigeria. The first model to be produced is the VW Tiguan, with the Teramont, Passat, Polo and Amarok to follow shortly. The facility has a yearly capacity of 5.000 vehicles per year. All vehicles are assembled from SKD kits shipped in from South Africa.
Kar-Tainer is proud to support Volkswagen in their expansions in Africa. Providing our returnable steel cassettes for this project we help to ensure vehicles arrive in good shape and in an environmental friendly manner. Besides having developed the system used to load and transport the SKD kits in containers, we also ensure that the equipment gets returned to South Africa for consecutive use.
